August is our month of membership and leadership seminars around the state. We are offering a a number of Membership Seminars, as well as repeating last year's first-ever New Leaders Seminar.
This year's Membership Seminars includes a new feature - local Associations will be hosting the membership seminars in certain regions of the state. There will also be co-trainers from local Associations with strong membership to help offer practical advice on best recruitment methods and techniques in this economic and political climate where the deck may seem stacked against labor unions. The seminars will be a chance to network with leaders and also to meet fellow leaders who are in local Associations who struggle to keep membership numbers high given local challenges. All seminars are open to any member from any local Association. This Seminar is best for local leaders who are new to membership recruitment or face chronic low membership and need help creating a strong membership plan that brings new members (or former members) into the union.
The New Leaders Seminar is designed for leaders with less than two years of elected leadership. The 90 minute Seminar will cover all the fundamentals of being a leader within the NEA (by-laws, meeting management, structure and function of our union), discuss best practices as a new leader, and offer time for self-directed discussions on challenges/questions poised by participants. The Seminar is open to any elected leader or member who is interested in running for local office.
If you are unable to attend one of these Seminars and have at least 5 local members interested in discussing membership of being trained as a group of new leaders, please contact Emma Mulvaney-Stanak email@example.com and we can schedule a local training in your district in August.
