Vermont-NEA is the Candidate Support Provider for National Board Certification. We have 85 or so current National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) in the classroom, but 141 teachers have achieved National Board Certification. Some NBCTs have retired and some are in other education positions. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) has been certifying teachers since the early 90s against rigorous standards. Although this is a voluntary certification, it is a natural continuum of our profession. Accomplished professional teachers, as evidenced by National Board Certification, is a growing voice of our profession.
NBPTS has a website for board certified teachers and those wishing to become board certified.

Vermont-NEA has developed a class for NBCTs up for renewal. This year, participants up for renewal are those who certificates expires in 2018 or 2019. Through review of the Five Core Propositions, Standards for Teaching, three types of writing, theories of leadership, and best practices within content areas, NBCTs create their Profile of Professional Growth and submit it to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and achieve renewal of their National Board Certification. Vermont-NEA members receive scholarships for the renewal fee. Registration will be found here in May. If you have any questions, please contact Juliette Longchamp at email@example.com.
