Vermont-NEA Partners work to support students, educators and public education

MONTPELIER -- Vermont-NEA, through a Partnership/Sponsorship program, provides on-going financial and/or promotional backing for a number of worthy projects and organizations whose work supports students, educators, and public education. These are the current Vermont-NEA Partners:

Children Gather Round
Builds understanding of Native American culture through a program in which students perform with us in Native American drumming, singing, dancing and storytelling.
Children Gather Round offers performances and residencies in schools, libraries, summer camps and other venues.

Vermont-NEA Scholars Bowl
Offers a statewide academic competition among teams of high school students.

The Vermont Center for the Book Mother Goose Programs
Mother Goose Programs are learning opportunities from the Vermont Center for the Book, enhancing the development, self-esteem, school readiness and success of young children by building the skills and confidence of parents, librarians and early childhood and other educators. Mother Goose Programs provide adults with picture books, activity guides, materials and training to transform reading with preschool children into multidimensional and powerful learning experiences.

Vermont Teacher Diversity Scholarship Program
Recruits Vermonters from diverse cultural backgrounds to obtain degrees and licenses to teach and lead. Upon employment, education loans are forgiven via private philanthropy.

Starbase Vermont
Provides student school year programs, student summer programs, teacher academy training. Hands-on, interactive learning opportunities involving science, math technology, and personal development -- goal setting, self-esteem, healthy choices, and teamwork.

First Day Foundation: First Day of School America Campaign
Activity: Ask schools to develop programs for parents on the first day of school, and ask employers to allow working parents time off on that day to participate. Vermont Historical Society (Vermont History Day)
Working individually or in small groups, students choose a historical event, person or invention related to the annual theme. With research done in libraries, museums, historical societies, as well as interviews and site visits to explore their topics, students prepare papers, exhibits, media presentations and performances as entries in the Vermont History Day event.

Vermont Votes for Kids
Provides curriculum lessons regarding voting. Then, on election day, students cast ballots alongside their parents at their neighborhood polling places.

Vermont Creative Imagination, Inc. - Destination ImagiNation
The Destination ImagiNation® School and Community Based Creative Problem Solving Program, under the auspices of Vermont Creative Imagination, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation, promotes divergent thinking in students from kindergarten through college. This program offers students a unique opportunity to participate in challenging and motivating activities both inside and outside their regular classroom curriculum.

Project Citizen... Vermont

Governor’s Institutes of Vermont
The Governor's Institutes of Vermont enriches the lives of motivated Vermont high school students through intensive educational experiences on Vermont college campuses. These summer programs emphasize experiential learning and subsequent community involvement. GIV seeks to enroll students who reflect the diversity of Vermont.

Vermont Creativity Quest, Inc. offering "Odyssey of the Mind"
Provides training and support in both the northern and southern region of Vermont for Odyssey of the Mind coaches, school coordinators and judges; an annual state problem-solving tournament, plus regional tournaments; support for teams that advance to the World Finals tournament; and college scholarships for current/former participants.

Vermont Bar Association Center for Public Education

Reading to End Racism

Dorothy Canfield Fisher Conference
The conference is to promote the DCF program (a children's choice reading program sponsored by the Department of Libraries) in particular, and to promote reading in general, The conference is aimed at teachers and librarians who work with children in grades 4-8.

The Vermont Accomplished Teaching Collaborative provides support for teachers interested in National Board Certification. Vermont Space Education Program

Vermont-NEA Partners submit a formal application for partnership, provide documentation of their activities, and are interviewed by the Vermont-NEA Partnership / Sponsorship Committee. The Committee brings its recommendation to the Vermont-NEA Board of Directors for final approval. Partnerships may be renewed each year.
