About Vermont-NEA
The Vermont-National Education Association is a voluntary membership
organization of 11,500 Vermont teachers and education support professionals.
We welcome everyone who cares about education to our website. Here
we offer fresh, constantly updated information to support
the work of educators, encourage the contribution
of parents, and nurture the learning of
children and young adults.
Vermont-NEA was founded in 1850 as the Vermont
Teachers' Association. Vermont-NEA now is a state-level affiliate of
the National Education Association,
the largest professional association in the United States, with 3.2
million members.
Educators in communities throughout Vermont are organized as local
affiliates of Vermont-NEA. Educators also join subject
area affiliates of Vermont-NEA, organizations dedicated to particular
professional specialties.
Vermont-NEA Resolutions and the Association's
Purpose and Priorities are determined democratically
through an annual Representative Assembly. Vermont-NEA policy is directed
by officers and board members selected in
statewide elections. Vermont-NEA's program is implemented by volunteer
committees of Association members and a full
time staff.
